FAQ

Right, time for some Frequently Answered Questions.  These will be amended as necessary.

How dare you?

I know, some total stranger is trying to dictate your behavior.  Where do I get off telling you what to do?  It’s YOUR life, dammit, and nobody else is going to tell you how to live it!

Great plan, O Rugged Individualist -- except, strictly speaking, that last sentence is a total crock.

Oh, the part about it being your life is absolutely true – and unless you believe in reincarnation or something, this is the only life you get, so you might as well make the most of it. But the part about nobody telling you how to live your life?  Hogwash.  There are plenty of people in positions of power who can and will tell you how to live your life, especially if you're not doing that great a job of it on your own.  Some of them can back their words up with things like employment termination, legal penalties, deadly weaponry and years of jail time if you don’t comply, so unless you want to be fired, have your wages garnished, get dead quick or spend a whole lot of quality time as a ward of the state, you might want to reconsider.

Why do I need to be taught, anyway? Don't people just pick most of this stuff up by osmosis?

Not based on the way far too many people behave in public.  I have seen literally hundreds of instances where people over the age of 21 swear in front of children, pick their noses, chew with their mouths open, and otherwise act uncouth.  Too many people who claim to be adults are irresponsible, dishonest, untrustworthy, have no work ethic and are incapable of making personal sacrifices -- and far too many people go through life believing that nothing is ever their fault.

Clearly, the osmosis method isn't working.  Somebody has to lay it on the line. So here I am.

You can't make me read this stupid blog.  I'm outta here.

You're right.  Bye.

Aren't you even going to try to convince me?

Nope.  If you want to be like nearly everybody else on earth and learn these skills the hard way, through trial and error and the luck of the draw, I'm not going to stop you.

In fact, this blog isn't for people like you.  Go away.
